Pastoral Care
When you visit us you'll quickly notice a very important feature of Gordon Uniting Church. This is a lively and growing Christian community. The skills and energy of many people are being offered and used effectively - and it's clearly not one of those Churches where the Minister does everything.
So this note from me is to say welcome, to encourage you to look through the other pages of our website, to invite you to come and visit us in person if you are in the area, and to offer you any help I can give as you find your way into this community.
Our minister, Rev Lorenzo Rodriguez Torres, commenced his settlement here at Gordon in February 2008, and he is available to you in any way that he can serve you, if there is something you would like to talk through, or if you or your family need some special support through a time of crisis.
My role is to work with the minister and the Church Council to help you find people who can be like an extended family to you - to offer you support and encouragement.
Gordon Uniting Church wishes to offer you the special resources that the Christian community has to make living meaningful, satisfying, and peaceful. We believe that worship, prayer, and spiritual disciplines - clearly and firmly based on what the Bible reveals about God's presence and purpose - are necessary for a sense of direction and value, and keep us in touch with the source of life.
We hope that, if you visit us, you will also find Gordon can offer you - and your family - a place where your skills and gifts can be used - both within the church, and also in the wider community. We believe that an important part of full and healthy living is to be involved in some kind of service - and that we all have a gift to use in healing the world's divisions and suffering.
Finding your way into and around a new community is never easy, but we'd like to make it as painless as possible. It can also be a new start, and it offers fresh opportunities and freedom to take new directions.
